Community Action Against Coyote Attacks in New Castle, NY

At Veoci, we are always excited to see our customers implement their own ideas with the help of our software. The town of New Castle, New York did just that when it became clear that a solution was needed after a number of dog killings by coyotes were reported among New Castle neighborhoods.

With no assistance from us, the New Castle Police Department created a system for residents to monitor reports of coyote sightings and encounters as well as share their own using Veoci’s form and GIS mapping features. Non-aggressive coyote behavior can be submitted by the public by filling out the Coyote Report Form. Information will be immediately visible on the map once it is submitted. Coyote sightings are marked with a green paw print icon while encounters are indicated by a yellow paw print.

Aggressive coyote behaviors must be reported and can only be entered by the New Castle Police. Attended and unattended pet attacks are marked with orange icons and provoked and unprovoked human attacks are marked with red.

We encourage other towns using Veoci to follow New Castle’s lead and map any similar issues to increase safety and awareness among communities.
